Chapter 212 Time
Chapter 212 Time (Part 2)
The Wei family usually gets up quite early. The next morning, Zhou Jing went out to buy groceries at seven o'clock, and Wei Guangzhi also went downstairs to take a morning walk by the river.
Hearing them talking and leaving, Wei Hongbo woke up and got out of bed to wash up. Wei Hongsi, who was in the same room, lay in bed for another ten minutes, guessing that his older brother had finished using the bathroom, before getting up.
After washing up, Wei Hongbo came out of the bathroom and saw his younger brother walking towards him yawning. He asked, "Didn't you sleep well last night?"
"Your snoring is really something now, you know I'll kick you three times tonight?" Wei Hongsi said as he walked into the bathroom, squeezed some toothpaste onto his toothbrush, and started brushing his teeth.
Wei Hongbo said, "It's probably because I haven't been getting enough rest lately."
Wei Hongsi suggested, "I think you'll feel much better if you quit smoking."
Wei Hongbo, however, had no such intention: "I often stay up late, and it's really hard for me not to smoke. Okay, I won't sleep in the same room with you anymore."
Wei Hongsi laughed and said, "It seems you want to be the director. You have quite the ambition."
Their current house is much larger than their old one, and it even has an extra bedroom. However, Wei Guangzhi uses one of the rooms as a study, so the two brothers still have to share a room as before. They are rarely in Xicheng now and are no longer considered permanent family members, thus losing their right to have their own bedroom.
Wei Hongbo ignored his younger brother's teasing, went back to his bedroom, took out his work notes, and planned out the day's work arrangements and key points, thinking and writing as he went.
After washing up, Wei Hongsi saw that his older brother was busy, so he didn't disturb him. He took out his phone to check Zhang Shuqiu's serialized novel, which had just been updated with a chapter not long ago.
Clicking on the novel's table of contents reveals the release date of each chapter. Including the two chapters he read last night, this is already the ninth chapter, averaging one chapter every hour and a half, with the pace slowing down in the last two chapters.
Wei Hongsi couldn't help but admire her; it seemed she really had been writing all night. He estimated the last chapter would be finished around 9:30 PM, not too early, not too late, but he wondered if Zhang Shuqiu would still have the energy to communicate then. He calculated his time and booked a high-speed train ticket to Yuecheng for 1 PM.
Around 7:40, Zhou Jing and Wei Guangzhi returned one after the other and worked together to prepare breakfast.
Wei Hongbo quickly finished his meal and headed out to the Xicheng Criminal Investigation Detachment. Today, he needed to conduct an investigation based on the new leads provided by Wei Hongsi, and there was a lot to do.
Wei Hongsi, considering that he had to have "breakfast" with Zhang Shuqiu, only drank a bowl of porridge, which to some extent aroused his mother's dissatisfaction.
After finishing his meal, he returned to his bedroom, read for a while, and then called Feng Xiaoxu and the person in charge of the CD experiment around nine o'clock to inquire about the progress of the work. He learned that everything was going smoothly and then discussed the afternoon's test with them.
After seeing that Zhang Shuqiu had updated another chapter, Wei Hongsi sent her a message: "Shall I come find you at ten o'clock?"
Zhang Shuqiu replied, "Okay."
"What would you like to eat? I'll bring it over."
"The restaurants probably aren't open yet, right? Let's eat out later, or order takeout."
"All right."
Wei Hongsi thought about it and agreed. Even if the restaurant wasn't open, chain fast food restaurants were still selling breakfast. He decided to go over there and see what happened.
He stayed at home until it was almost time, packed his things, told his parents, and then went out.
As they walked to Zhang Shuqiu's house, they looked around the neighborhood. Even after entering the building, they found nothing different from yesterday and wondered where the police officers who had been stationed there were hiding.
He knew he couldn't possibly figure it out with his own abilities, otherwise there would be no point in waiting for a rabbit to run into a tree stump, but he still couldn't help being a little curious about it.
Wei Hongsi went up to the third floor, waited another minute, and knocked on Zhang Shuqiu's door right on time.
Soon, footsteps sounded from inside, the door opened, and Zhang Shuqiu said with a smile, "Come in!"
Wei Hongsi said, "You opened the door without even asking who it was?"
Zhang Shuqiu pointed to the electronic peephole on the door: "I can see you! You've been standing outside for a while now, haven't you?"
Wei Hongsi nodded, unconcerned. He glanced at the lock as he closed the door; it seemed to have been changed recently. It appeared that Zhang Shuqiu's security awareness had improved considerably after Han Tao's sudden appearance.
Wei Hongsi sat down in the living room and noticed that the house had been cleaned and looked cleaner than yesterday. The scattered snacks on the coffee table were gone, leaving only three cans of beer, the leftovers from yesterday.
Looking at Zhang Shuqiu again, she seemed to have just taken a shower; her hair was still a little wet. She had changed into clean clothes, and although the style was the same, she looked much better.
Zhang Shuqiu remained seated opposite Wei Hongsi and said, "Let's chat casually for a bit. I've already ordered takeout, but it won't arrive for another hour."
Wei Hongsi asked, "Do you often order takeout?"
Zhang Shuqiu nodded: "That's right, I don't cook, so am I supposed to eat instant noodles every day?"
"Aren't you afraid there might be something wrong with the takeout?"
"What problems could there be? We can't just isolate ourselves from the world."
As Zhang Shuqiu spoke, she picked up a can of beer, but Wei Hongsi reached out and snatched it from her hand.
"What are you doing?" Zhang Shuqiu asked in surprise. "Weren't you going to talk to me?"
"Yeah, it's chatting, not drinking."
"If you want to hear something from me, let me drink it. I also ordered another pack, which will be delivered with the takeout later."
"Then I'll tell you, and you listen. What do you think?"
Zhang Shuqiu looked at Wei Hongsi, a hint of hesitation in her eyes: "What do you want to tell me?"
Wei Hongsi said, "Let's talk about our past and present. If you feel uncomfortable with what I'm saying, please remind me to stop."
Zhang Shuqiu smiled and said, "Alright then. Actually, I'm quite curious about some things about you too."
Wei Hongsi asked, "You said that when I was in my senior year of high school, I suddenly pretended not to know you. Do you remember the exact time?"
Zhang Shuqiu blinked: "Isn't this still you asking me?"
Wei Hongsi said, "If you find it difficult to explain, then skip this question."
"Let me think," Zhang Shuqiu said thoughtfully. "I remember it was shortly after the winter break ended and school started, probably late February or early March, or maybe April."
Wei Hongsi asked, "Can you recall the exact time?"
Zhang Shuqiu pondered for a moment, then shook his head vigorously and said somewhat irritably, "I can't remember."
She took two heavy breaths and reached for the beer on the coffee table.
Wei Hongsi pressed her hand down: "It's okay if you can't remember, then let's not talk about this."
""
The time span described by Zhang Shuqiu is obviously too large. If she had a very deep impression of this matter, this situation should not have occurred.
